The Programme Management Unit (PMU) has recently changed its role from managing the Greater Amman Water Sector Improvement Programme into a more comprehensive and wide-ranging one aimed at transforming the current structure of the water and wastewater services in the Kingdom into a service industry that provides these vital services in a cost-efficient yet socially responsive manner.
The second part of the PMU mission is the preparation and schooling of those institutions involved in providing services to develop a professional auditing capability. Although currently using the existing structure, the PMU is in the process of developing a new Organizational structure to suit its new role (Forms Follow Functions).
The scope of work contained in the Al-Meyyah Project Mandate incorporates various activities that, in order to be achieved, will be more or less dependent on other activities’ performance, which in certain cases are provided by projects sponsored under several donor involvements. The inclusion of PMU /AL Meyyah-external projects is necessary in order to avoid duplication of effort, and to detect gaps that would require the launch of complementary measures to achieve results.
This setup demands application of a strong project management environment that is not provided by a conventional departmental organizational structure.
The new organization is geared to the Al Meyyah scope of work which is split into manageable units (tasks) that are assigned to task managers. Each task manager prepares a task reference document that contains all important information of his/her particular task.
