PMU was, and will be in future, even more actively involved in the efforts undertaken by the Ministry / WAJ regarding private sector involvement in the water and wastewater services in Jordan. The extensive experience gained throughout the period of monitoring and modifying the Management Contract of Amman was translated into the shaping of the assignment conditions of the new water company in Amman. Designing the programme and monitoring of the Management Consultant for the Northern Governorates, as well as launching and monitoring of the outsourcing of billing and revenue activities in Madaba were also within the remit of the PMU. Last, but by no means least, valuable experience has been gained during design and execution of the BOT project for the wastewater treatment plant As-Samra.

With extensive experience within the PMU of the strengths and weaknesses of the different private sector activities, the way is clear for developing hand-tailored solutions for the remaining water administrations of the Kingdom.

Significant attention will be paid to assisting and facilitating the water administrations in their installation of adequate internal organizational structure, data acquisition and processing, introduction of modern operational practices and internal processes that are required in order to attract the private sector to get involved in the provision of services.

Due to the limited resources of the PMU, implementation of streamlined improvements will be carried out mostly through internationally sponsored support projects.
